Job Description:
Upper Merion Township, located in King of Prussia, PA, is
seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Police Communications /
Dispatch Supervisor. The Police Communications Supervisor position
is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and supervising
the activities of the Dispatch and Records staff under the
direction of the Lieutenant of Auxiliary Services. The Supervisor
will: provide administrative and technical support as required;
facilitate/participate in training programs and schedules; evaluate
subordinates; and perform Dispatcher and other duties as required.
The position requires excellent communication and management
skills, the ability to multi-task, and the ability to read,
understand, and follow departmental and township policy and
procedures per the essential job functions.

The duties of the Police Communications / Dispatch Supervisor
include (but are not limited to):
Plans, manages, and coordinates dispatch/communication activities,
including prioritizing, assigning, supervising, and reviewing
dispatch staff work.
Participates in selecting Dispatch and Records staff, and
developing effective training programs and evaluation for
telecommunicators.
Conducts performance evaluations of Dispatch/communications and
Records staff; works with employees to correct deficiencies;
implements disciplinary procedures as directed.
Knowledge of operations, services, and activities of a modern
public safety telecommunications and Dispatch center, including,
but not limited to: call-taking and dispatch techniques, protocols,
and best practices used in public safety telecommunications and
dispatching activities.
Assists in the budget process for Dispatch/communication services
and Records; monitors and controls expenditures.
Performs the full range of duties of subordinate personnel.
The schedule will be fixed, but be able to work alternative
schedules, weekends, holidays, and nights based on department
needs.
Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Required:
High School Diploma or GED; at least six (5) years of emergency
communications and dispatch experience and able to maintain annual
state and national fingerprint-based background check clearance as
required by the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) Criminal
Justice Information System (CJIS) Security Policy.
Knowledge of Police dispatch and National Crime Information Center
(NCIC) operator functions.
Knowledge of supervisory techniques and skills. Supervisory
experience is preferred.
Possession of a valid driver's license.
Additional Requirements:
Upon employment, become familiar with all streets and highways in
the Township and all residential, business, and industrial
areas.
Upon employment, become proficient in using CODY Records Management
System, JNET, and other law enforcement information databases.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, selected/ relevant individual
NENA and APCO certifications.
*the Department intends to obtain relevant certifications or meet
standards for individual dispatch staff and the agency from NENA,
APCO, and PEMA.
Salary: $80,000/year
