Empowering diverse perspectives will be essential to this process.SUMMARY OF POSITIONThe Major Gift Officer II of Development is responsible for the advancement of the vision and priorities of the University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus (UMMC Midtown Campus) and Community Engagement initiatives across the University Maryland Medical Center and School of Medicine. The Major Gift Officer II will report to the Associate Dean of Development for the University of Maryland Medicine philanthropy team. Working as a strategic partner with the Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer at the UMMC Midtown Campus, the Senior Associate Dean for Population and Community Medicine and the Senior Vice President, Strategy, Community and Business Development, the Major Gift Officer II is responsible for grateful patient and unaffiliated prospect engagement, including major and principal gift conversations, and stewardship of UMMC Midtown Campus and Community Health donors.UMMC Midtown Campus operates 144 inpatient beds and provides care in more than 30 medical specialties. We offer a wide array of outpatient centers serving more than 120,000 patients annually. More than 500 University of Maryland School of Medicine clinical faculty physicians and 1,400 team members care for each patient with expertise and compassion. We have a deep commitment for improving the health of the people and the communities we serve.SCOPE OF ROLE

• Manage a portfolio of approximately 80-100 major and principal gift donors. The Major Gift Officer II will identify and evaluate the giving potential of high end affiliated and unaffiliated major and principal gift prospects through personal visits and research; and manage the cultivation and solicitation of planned giving prospects.
• Engage directly in major and principal gift cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for prospective donors with the potential to make gifts of more than $50,000. The Major Gift Officer II will be expected to conduct a minimum of 75 cultivation and solicitation visits a year, including the preparation of written proposals, soliciting at least 18 major gifts per year, and individually closing gifts totaling at least $1.25 M annually.
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of the research, teaching, and patient care activity of the UMMC Midtown Campus.
• Develop a comprehensive understanding of the community health and workforce development initiatives of the University of Maryland Medicine and work directly with University of Maryland Medicine leadership teams to construct a development vision and strategy and establish priorities to advance the vision.
• Develop, implement, and manage an annual development plan including setting goals, developing fundraising campaigns, stewardship, event coordination, monitoring efforts and evaluating results.
• Oversee and coordinate special fundraising publications such as campaign case statements and brochures.
• Motivate, guide, and educate faculty in the identification and cultivation of major and principal gifts.
• Meet regularly with the UMMC Midtown Campus and Community Health and Community Engagement leadership teams, organizing the meetings with data-driven reporting, clear and consistent documentation, and focused task-oriented principles.
• Collaborate with UMM philanthropy colleagues on institutional giving strategies, proposals, and stewardship activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.QualificationsEducation: Bachelors in a related field.Experience: Four (4) years of philanthropy experience with at least one (1) year of managing prospects in a higher education or equivalent fundraising experience.Preferred: Professional experience supporting the development work in community healthcare, an academic medical center and/or grateful patient fundraising experience preferred. Management experience preferred.Other: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience.
