This position is within the State and Local Tax (SALT) team. Learn more at https://www.jnj.com/.Purpose: Position OverviewThe US Indirect Tax Manager will partner with all departments within the Global Tax Organization, including Tax Planning, Tax Counsel Group, Tax Reporting, Tax Compliance and Tax Technology. The role will also partner with colleagues in Finance, Procurement, Supply Chain and with external vendors. The US Indirect Tax Manager will report to the SALT Director. The US Indirect Tax Manager will be responsible for identifying and implementing best in class tax compliance, tax reporting and drive efficiencies in our tax processes to streamline tax processes and reduce manual workload. Key Objectives and Responsibilities:

  • Manage indirect taxes including sales & use tax, real & personal property tax, local gross receipts, local business licenses & occupancy taxes, state & local annual licenses.
  • Standardize major indirect tax processes with focus on sales & use tax processes and alignment with processes of existing US CTC companies.
  • Assist with the identification of industry best practices for indirect taxes and lead implementations.
  • Assist and support Tax Technology team with assessment of the current state technology landscape, design of future state and prioritization of technology investments for indirect tax processes.
  • Lead the Indirect tax compliance for assigned businesses.
  • Lead a team of 2 indirect tax professionals.
  • Ensure strong internal control environment including compliance with all SOX, internal audit, and J&J requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with Tax Operations team to ensure proper documentation and accurate compliance.
  • Collaborate with Tax Planning Groups / Tax Counsel Group on various domestic planning activities including, but not limited to:
    • Structuring of domestic business transactions or reorganizations.
    • Creation and termination of US legal entities.
    • System design changes or implementation.
    • Acquisition and Divestiture support for due diligence and integration activities.
    • Lead the identification and implementation of planning opportunities arising from the indirect tax compliance and audit processes including state tax credits and incentives for indirect taxes.
    • Advise on the tax effects of proposed and enacted federal, state, and local tax legislation.Qualifications:
      • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree with a preference in Finance, Accounting, Tax, or related field is required.
      • A CPA, MBA, Masters of Tax, or other certification preferred.
      • A minimum of 5 years tax experience, including indirect tax experience is required.
      • People management experience preferred.
      • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
      • Ability to communicate effectively with business partners is required.
      • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail are required.
      • Demonstrated learning agility is required.
      • Ability to demonstrate strategic thinking and promote innovation and continuous learning within the group is preferred.

Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis.
